Bubble Burst

I refuse to be a bubble,

Like the dot com in the 1990s

that bloomed into stardom

But burst without an applause;

Damage unestimated,

Casualties unannounced.

I refuse to be a bubble,

Like the ones blown by a child

Enjoying its bloom

Spectrum of colors under the sun

Until it disappears

Into thin air

When least expected.

I refuse to disappear

Abruptly;

without a word,

without a trace.

I cannot hasten

Because you are impatient,

Because you insist,

I need time to grow

Slowly but definitely;

I take time to rise

above and beyond the mundane.

I want to last,

A dream not to wake up from.

Remembered,

A love that pines a lifetime.

An absence felt,

Conspicuously.

Note: In economics a bubble burst occurs when something is sold at prices beyond its intrinsic value with no consistent and plausible view about its future. In a bubble, prices escalate rapidly only to dramatically drop, often due to sociological reasons, it causes the market to crash unexpectedly, or the bubble to burst. Prices are inconsistent and thus impossible to predict, which makes the bubble burst to be only identified after the crash. When I first learnt about bubble bursts while studying international economics, beyond its technical meaning its metaphorical significance to life was impactful. Thus my understanding of the economics behind a bubble burst may be vague, but the relevance I have drawn between an economic bubble and life in general is unmistaken.
